Confetti Vase 06
Confetti Series is a group of forms that seek to engage with the idea of time and decay. The Confetti vessels are shaped in traditional forms and are decorated with the discarded trimmings from other projects. In subsequent vessels in the series, the “discarded” pieces attached to the main form become bigger and bigger; giving the feeling that not only the leftover crumbs of a project were used, but whole shards of otherwise thrown away work are integrated into something new.
Work that flows towards the Confetti path is focused on the way materials may decay, crumple, fuse together or decompose over time. The irregular shapes created using slip casting created cracks in the poured clay body. These pieces were then attached to thrown porcelain vessels and contributed to the next iteration of the Confetti series . These have been more instinctive experiments; I don’t need to “think” about anything, but just let the clay lead me through the various alterations; and most importantly, salvage the failed experiments to create something new.
